Introvert’s Guide to Dating in a Pandemic
Description
Zine written & illustrated by me in order to help fellow introverts navigate online dating during or after a pandemic. This colorful collection of hand lettering and illustrations are accompanied by easy to digest steps that will guide one on their journey to find love. If you’ve already found the one, it’s still worth reading, even if it’s just for the art!
Context
Needed to be at least 16 pages
Topic needed to be COVID related
Design, copy & layout were open
Problem
Layout, copy and design needed to be cohesive & well thought out
Illustration style needed to match
Required a lot of copy to fill the Zine
Solution
After some trial and error during the early stages, I decided to rework my copy into a guide on dating during COVID. Making the Zine a guide allowed me to write a story based on personal experience without making it overly personal. To compliment the copy, I gave myself a lot of creative freedom with the illustrations. The style was impromptu, unique, and a joy to create.
The Artwork
At the start of this project, I felt so lost, the idea in my head was not translating to paper. A common problem for artists. In order solve this, I spent hours looking at illustration inspiration. I came across Gal Shir’s work, an artist I was already aware of. However, for some reason seeing his work that time was different.
While viewing his website, I found that he sold ProCreate brushes that included a texture pack. I immediately bought them and began mindlessly doodling on my iPad to test them. It was love at first try! While creating the artwork for this zine I felt so fulfilled and creative. It was so liberating! While I accidentally stumbled upon this style, it felt more like fate.
